End-to-end encrypted calls
We could not listen if we wanted to.
Audio, video and screen sharing go straight between the people on the call, encrypted with DTLS-SRTP before they leave the device. The keys are agreed between those devices and never leave them.
Only the participants possess the keys necessary to decrypt the audio. Konvella cannot decrypt, listen to, or record the call.
Our servers help the two devices find each other and then get out of the way. They never carry the call itself — so there is no recording to leak, no key to hand over, and nothing to compel from us. Calls are never recorded, by us or by the app.

Installing on Android
Open konvella.com/android on the phone and tap Install — Chrome does it in one tap, with no warning to click through, and it keeps itself up to date.
If you would rather have a file you can keep or pass to somebody, the same page offers the app as a download. Android asks permission once before installing anything from outside the Play Store; the page walks through it.
Installing on iPhone
Open konvella.com/ios in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Three taps and it is there.
It has to be Safari: no other browser on iPhone is allowed to add an app to the Home Screen. Allow notifications when it asks, or messages and calls will not reach you with the app closed.

Two-factor authentication
Add a second step at sign-in with Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or any other authenticator app. Recovery codes cover you if you lose your phone, and up to five trusted devices can skip the code.
Encrypted at rest
Every message and every file is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Deleting a message destroys its content for everyone, not just hides it.
Private calls
Call audio flows directly between the two of you and is encrypted by the connection itself. The server only helps you find each other.

Why does Windows show a warning when I install?
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen doesn't recognise the publisher. Choose More info, then Run anyway. You'll only see this once.
Can I use Konvella on my phone?
Yes, both. On iPhone, open konvella.com/ios in Safari and follow the three steps. On Android, open konvella.com/android and tap Install — Chrome does it in one tap — or download the app from the same page. Either way it is a real app icon, full screen, no store involved, on the same account you already use.
Calls reach you with the app closed: a notification arrives and opening it puts you straight into the call. It will not take over the screen the way a phone call does — a web app is not allowed to — but you will know somebody is calling, and a call you miss says so afterwards.
One thing does not work on a phone: screen sharing, because no mobile browser can capture a screen. Mac is not there yet.
Do I have to download it again for every update?
No. Once installed, Konvella checks for updates in the background and offers a quick restart when a new version is ready.
Is my data encrypted?
Calls are end-to-end encrypted. Audio, video and screen sharing go straight between the people on the call, and only they hold the keys — Konvella cannot decrypt, listen to, or record a call. Every call shows a safety number you can read aloud to check that nobody is in the middle.
Messages and files are a different matter, and we would rather be straight about it: they are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and in transit with TLS, but not end to end. Our servers can read them, which is what makes it possible to act when somebody reports a message. If you need a messenger whose operator cannot read your messages at all, that is not what this is.
What if I lose the phone with my authenticator app?
Use one of the recovery codes you were given when you turned on two-factor authentication. Each works once, and you can generate a fresh set any time from settings.
How do I add friends?
Open Add friend and enter their exact username. Once they accept, you can message and call each other.
